An article discussing the character of Louis Dauth and prospective business partner Chas Smith

As may be seen by notice elsewhere the firm of Dauth & Annis, dealers in groceries and family supplies, has been dissolved- Mr. A. E. Annis having sold his interest in the business and retiring. Upon the dissolution of this firm a new firm sprang into existence composed of Alderman Dauth and Chas. E. Smith, the popular fruit and confectionery man, which will be known as the firm of Dauth & Smith. Of Alderman Dauth it is scarcely necessary to speak, as he is recognized all over the county as one of the standbys of Fort Collins, as well as one of its most successful and prosperous businessmen. His name is a synonym for uprightness, honor and integrity. Of Mr. Smith not so much is known. He came here less than a year ago and engaged in a small way in the fruit and confectionery business with a stand on Linden street. He gave his undivided attention to the business and soon succeeded, by his courteous ways and careful regard for the wants of his patrons, in building up an extensive and lucrative trade. Indeed, his success in that direction has been a phenomenal one and shows what can be done by a man who understands his business and devotes himself to it. We predict a lively trade and an era of prosperity for the new firm. Mr. Annis has not yet decided upon his future line of business but there is little fear that a man of his boundless energy and adaptability to almost any active business pursuit will long remain idle where there is so much to be done. His old patrons all wish him a long life and a prosperous one. ⧉
Despite the details and certainty posed in this article the Dauth & Smith partnership would not materialize.
