Ex-Alderman Louis Dauth left Tuesday morning on a three months' excursion and visit to his old home in the Fatherland, which he left thirteen years ago, just after the close of the Franco-Prussian war. Mr. Dauth was one of Emperor William’s gallant soldiers, serving with distinction and honor under the Crown prince, and participating in nearly every one of the hard fought battles of that short but bloody war. He came to America in 1872 and after spending a few months on the seaboard started for Colorado, where he has been ever since, with exception of about six months spent in Wyoming. He came to Fort Collins in October, 1877 and with a capital of less than $300 engaged in the bakery and grocery business in the little building now occupied by McGowan & Fuller. He has been very prosperous in all his undertakings and is now a leading and one of our most substantial and highly respected business men and citizens, admired by all for his sterling honesty and his excellent social and business qualifications. Mr. Dauth has well earned a play spell and it is the wish of all who know him that he may experience an enjoyable season. His family will remain with relatives in Denver during his absence. Mr. Adolph Donath, of the Big Thompson valley, another one of Larimer county’s popular adopted citizens, will accompany Alderman Dauth on a similar errand. ⧉
