Surprised By Her Friends
On Monday evening a number of ladies and gentlemen decided to surprise Mrs. Walter Cliffe, who resides at 128 West Seventh street, the occasion being the anniversary of her birthday, and accordingly they loaded themselves with baskets and packages, with which they made their appearance at her door. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cliffe were completely surprised, but soon recovered and at once welcomed their guests, who had brought with them all the edibles necessary to furnish a table with a repast that was appreciated by those who partook of the good things. The most of the packages proved to be presents designed for Mrs. Cliffe, and the pleasure of all was unalloyed. ⧉
