Stricken Wife Borne On Sled Thru Blizzard

(Continued From Page One.) "Our snowshoes sank down two feet every step. We were pushing thru new, soft snow five feet deep."; The two exhausted men and the sick woman arrived Saturday night at a cow camp nine miles down the trail road from Trappers lake, famous fishing lake lying 10,500 feet high in the Flat top mountains.; They spent the night there and the next day a blizzard overtook them. In some of the worst weather of the winter, the men made the eight miles to Twin Springs Sunday night. ; The twenty-five-mile trip over snowy roads was made Monday. ; "My wife started to get sick early last week," Harrington said. "By Friday we knew she had to be taken to a doctor. ' "There was no way of calling a doctor to come out to us, so I went after Dauth. He lives seven miles below us. ; "We fixed up the toboggan with two pair of skis,: Harrington said. "We knocked the ends out of two orange crates, filled them with blankets, and made a bed for Patricia. ; "We started down Saturday morning. It turned warm. The snow got soft and slushy. It was heavy going on those snowshoes. ; "But we were all comfortable Saturday night in the cow camp cabin," the young husband continued. ; "The next day the storm hit us on the trail. The snow was thick and how the wind piled it up! ; "Dauth and I went down two feet every step. We'd have to stop and rest twice every half hour. That was really tough going, but Patricia was bundled up warm and she didn't complain any. ; "We made just about a mile an hour. And were we glad when we got to Twin Spring!" ; Mrs. Harrington, suffering from an intestinal obstruction, did not lose consciousness during the trip and appeared not to have suffered from exposure. ; The Harringtons moved to Trappers Lake from Rockford, Ill., early last autumn to trap in the White river country and take care of the summer resort, Elk Lodge. ; At Twin Springs Harrington was able to telephone to Paul C. Dunn, operator of elk Lodge and the Meeker hotel in Meeker, who sent the four horses and bob sled to meet the party. Meeker has no hospital with an operating room.
