1954-10-02 – Greeley Daily Tribune – June Dauth Newspaper Boy ⧉

Some of the Greeley Daily Tribune carriers in 1920 are assembled here in front of the office when it occupied all the north part of the ground floor of the Camfield hotel. Present-day newspaper boys are honored on Saturday, Newspaper Boys day. Mrs. E. E. (Margaret) Lewis, who was in charge of the carriers, can be very dimly seen in the doorway. In the front row, left to right: Bruce Harbottle, Floyd Allen, Albert Luther, William K. (Bus) Penrose, Stanly A Knapp, and Bill Condon. The back row, left to right: George Dauth Jr., Wilbur Benton, Harold Jones, John Bethell, Lawton Luther, Ed Coit Johnson, a youthful Mr. Peterson whose first name could not be learned; and Bill Grove. George Dauth Jr., a Greeley high school and Colorado state football and basketball star, died when was 27 years old. He was working for his father in the grocery and market. He was a brother of Leslie Dauth, Greeley realtor. Wilbur Benton farms near Lucerne. Harold Jones is head of the Jones Tent and Awning company here. John Bothell is now studying for his doctorate at Peabody Institute at Haysville, Tenn. When he receives his degree he will return to Colorado State College of Education to teach. Lawton Luther has an executive position with the government Printing Office in Washington, Colt Johnson is the Culligan’s soft water service at LaSalle. Bill Grove majored in industrial arts, especially in woodworking at Colorado Sate here. He taught in Estes Park for some time. Now he operates the Eastern Furniture company at Estes Park, which manufactures most of its own furniture. Bruce Harbottle, for some time an accountant with the Shell Oil company in California., is now in New York City with the same company. Floyd Allen is the Plymouth dealer at Eaton. Albert Luther has an executive position among the estimators for the government printing office in Washington. Listed among the carrier at this time but not in the picture are: M. E. H. Smith of Greeley, the present district attorney of the eight Judicial district; Bradford hatch, a pressman at the Denver Post; and Ned Hamilton, now an appliance salesman at Oakland Calif. Thirty-four years ago all Tribune carrier routes were in Greeley. Now the Tribune has 36 carriers in Greeley and 12 in county towns outside Greeley. The number of Greeley readers has more than doubled. ⧉
