The log cabin once built by soldiers back of the Tedmon house served many uses. Reed had a jewelry shop there before he joined with Louis Dauth, the baker, to build the Reed & Dauth Block at 223 Linden. A Chinese laundry operated in the old cabin for a while. With every new building there was a shakeup of tenants. The Courier office was above the jeweler's in the Reed & Dauth Block before it moved to Jefferson. Lauterbach had his cigar store in the Jefferson Block in 1882 before he moved to 208 Linden. ⧉
