George Dauth was born in Westhofen, Hessen, Germany October 24, 1868. he came to America in 1884 accompanied by his well-educated older sister, Lina, as were all his brothers as they neared military age. He went directly to Fort Collins and worked for his brother, Louis, until he could get established. Later he opened a butcher shop in Five points in Denver. In 1901 he met Florence Yeaton, who had a millinery shop in Greeley. They were married in 1903. In 1905 he left his shop to his brother, Louis, and started a butcher shop and slaughter house in Greeley. He also purchased a number of farms. As he was very much interested in sports, he started a baseball diamond on his land near the slaughter house. This was prior to the Island Grove baseball diamond. George Dauth was killed in 1946 at Evans, Colorado at the age of 77. He was hit by a fast train as he was driving to his chicken farm. He and his wife had six children of their own and raised three children of his deceased brother. At the present time his son, Les, and his wife live at their home at Idlewild up the Big Thompson Canyon. This property was owned by Dauths prior to World War I. Les's daughter, Leslie Ann, lives in Greeley; son, Jerry, in Saudi Arabia. ⧉
