From P5 In 1922 new hall at 16th and Clarkson 1570 – still active P74 Germanic Lodge No 14 100F 1872-1967 (still active) Starting in 1893 the report shows the beginning of the effect of the silver panic. Two members were dropped for nonpayment of dues and eight members were helped financially. However the lodge came up into an increase in net assets which amounted to $25,000. Jacob Fitting was the noble Grand and John Wolfe Vice-Grand. Fitting was the owner of the large ornamental Iron works located at Market Street between 14th and 15th (1433-35-37-39). It is remarkable that the lodge was able to hold onto their $25,000 during the most severe financial depression that Denver has ever witnessed (p73) Germanic has prospered because dedicated officers, frugal management, punctuality in payments and sound and wise investments. P113 Ernest Burkhardt born Herschberg, [?]Thurigen in[?]. In Denver he went work for Winter and Fitting Locksmiths 1883. He became a fence maker for the Denver Iron and Fence Co. and a year later Burkhardt, Winter and Verdeckberg bought the Denver Wire and Iron Works located at 612-14 17th St. Leaving Market St. They moved to 869 So. Pages 9-12 are selections about the Fittings from the book "German Pioneers in Colorado 1850-1900’s" by Jacob V Schaetzel. Pages 12-13 are selections about structures built by the Fittings from the book "Mile High Trolleys" by William C Jones. Page 14 are notes from Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) found in her bible. Page 15 are selections from "Denver In Slices" by Louisa Ward Arps. Pages 15-17 are a transcription of a conversation between Anna Fitting, Eva Fitting, Elizabeth Fitting, and Isabella Fraser. Pages 18-21 is a family history of the Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) family written by Eva Fitting. These notes were sent to Leslie Dauth by Isabella Fraser in the 1980s.
