…return to Germany. Four years later they were back in Denver. This time permanently. Jacob Fitting formed the Pioneer Iron and Wire Works at 1435 Market St (Holladay) (also lived there, 1895, upstairs) and was there 69 years. The business was a family affair with the mother taking charge of orders and supervising the bookkeeping and cashier work. (Aunt Eva did it all later when she was out of school) and father and sons doing the hard manual labor. The Fittings did the ornamental Iron work for the Union Depot and made ornamental fencing and iron locks for many of the banks buildings and homes being built in the Denver area. Being a frugal and industrious family they got through the Silver Panic of 1893 which lasted until at least 1900. (Dates wrong on P121) In 1912 Fittings built a three story hotel and took in guests (15th between Larimer and Lawrence) they lived in part of the building for a while and later moved to 624 Pennsylvania. After many years built Hotel Lenna at 1330 Laurence and moved there. German Paper Colorado Herold Downstairs (In later years moved to 2750 Fillmore where they lived until they passed away) P88 Colorado Herold – William Witteborg proprietor business of 1429-31 Market 1890 P122 John Good bought the James End lich brewery first in Denver, Changed name to Rocky Mountain Brewery. Phillip Zany bought this Brewery and Wilham Barkhandt and Good started the Tivoli Brewery Co. ⧉

Pages 9-12 are selections about the Fittings from the book "German Pioneers in Colorado 1850-1900’s" by Jacob V Schaetzel. Pages 12-13 are selections about structures built by the Fittings from the book "Mile High Trolleys" by William C Jones. Page 14 are notes from Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) found in her bible. Page 15 are selections from "Denver In Slices" by Louisa Ward Arps. Pages 15-17 are a transcription of a conversation between Anna Fitting, Eva Fitting, Elizabeth Fitting, and Isabella Fraser. Pages 18-21 is a family history of the Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) family written by Eva Fitting. These notes were sent to Leslie Dauth by Isabella Fraser in the 1980s.
