Came from Germany 1880. Worked So Park RRG $9 a week 1 month. Got job from Gus Winter saw filing, key fittings and store repairs. Repaired store for Mr. Geno who had a furniture store on Larimer St. Mamma worked as a housemaid after Willie was born. Gus Winter had a shop on 17th Larimer (old Colo Bank Bldg) moved in Clayton Blk. Then moved across from Machen Hotel 17th Laurence. Mamma opened up Millinery Shop at 25-26th on Larimer. Papa bought half interest in Winter’s business for $750. Moved to 15th St. where Jack Scott is located. Stayed there 2 years. Then bought lot where Schaefer Trust Co is located. Stayed there 3 years. Then sold out for $10,000 to a Drug Store man. Went to Germany 1889. Bought a home and business in Germany. Groceries and notions. Sold out in 1893 came back to US. Again moved 2nd house to 28th Welton. Bought lot 1439 Market to build 2 story Bldg. Lived upstairs. Mamma had Millinery Shop in front of shop 1439 Market. Mamma helped Papa in shop evenings. Made 3 block fence for Union Station. Worked punch or machine all by hand. Made cells at City Jail $3100, cells were padded. 500 ft. fence, Dr. Thompson of Palmer Lake. Made cemetery fence, Central City. Made potato saline cellar, Greeley Colo, Misc work Sugar Co. for Elevator enclosure and fence. ⧉

Pages 9-12 are selections about the Fittings from the book "German Pioneers in Colorado 1850-1900’s" by Jacob V Schaetzel. Pages 12-13 are selections about structures built by the Fittings from the book "Mile High Trolleys" by William C Jones. Page 14 are notes from Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) found in her bible. Page 15 are selections from "Denver In Slices" by Louisa Ward Arps. Pages 15-17 are a transcription of a conversation between Anna Fitting, Eva Fitting, Elizabeth Fitting, and Isabella Fraser. Pages 18-21 is a family history of the Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) family written by Eva Fitting. These notes were sent to Leslie Dauth by Isabella Fraser in the 1980s. A more refined draft of these notes with slightly different information can be found in the Fort Collins Archive (Fort Collins History Connection).
