History of Mamma and Papa and their business – the Pioneer Iron and Wire Works -Written by Lizzie Donohue. Jacob Fitting born March 24 – 1856 in Westhofen, Germany died Dec 9, 1948. Lina Fitting born June 23 – 1857 in a village near France (Sauerschwabenheim) died June 18 – 1947, mother’s maiden name was Dauth, her father was a Postmaster in Darmstadt, Germany. They were married in Antwerp Belgium came to Denver in 1880 went back to Germany in 1889 had a small store in Darmstadt came back in 1893, had seven children all here in Denver except Annie who was born in Darmstadt, Germany. My father’s partner was a Mr. Winter. The First iron fence was made by hand and was put up at the Denver Union Station a part of which is still standing. By the way it was paid for in all silver dollars. This article was in the [?] Journal. Pioneer Iron and Wire Works Co. closed after 69 years. Creators of some of the most beautiful ornamental iron to grace the roads of Denver and Victorian homes on Capitol Hill are Going out of business after 69 years of continuous service. Up for sale to liquidate the estate of Jakob Fitting who died last year at 93 in the Pioneer Iron and Wire Works located at 1433 market for the last 56 years. ⧉

Pages 8-9 is a family history of the Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) family written by Isabella Fraser. Pages 9-12 are selections about the Fittings from the book "German Pioneers in Colorado 1850-1900’s" by Jacob V Schaetzel. Pages 12-13 are selections about structures built by the Fittings from the book "Mile High Trolleys" by William C Jones. Page 14 are notes from Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) found in her bible. Page 15 are selections from "Denver In Slices" by Louisa Ward Arps. Pages 15-17 are a transcription of a conversation between Anna Fitting, Eva Fitting, Elizabeth Fitting, and Isabella Fraser. Pages 18-21 is a family history of the Caroline (Lena) Dauth (Fitting) family written by Eva Fitting. These notes were sent to Leslie Dauth by Isabella Fraser in the 1980s. A more refined draft of these notes with slightly different information can be found in the Fort Collins Archive (Fort Collins History Connection).
